Happy 50th, Hormonal Birth Control!
Today we celebrate 50 years of the hormonal birth control being on the market for contraceptive use. I feel that it can be said safely that the pill has changed the lives of millions of women around the world. While I do not have any cake to share, I can provide you with an article covering the history of the pill and even a song to enjoy for today's anniversary:

I love that Loretta Lynn song! What a badass lady.
MSNBC's Lifeline did an interesting segment on the Pill's 50th anniversary and new developments in contraceptives: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34276015/vp/37004761#37004761
I can't figure out how to embed the video here in the comments... Very frustrating.
Though I recognize the value of the pill on the lives of lots of women, I really wish that there were more non-hormonal forms of birth control and/or hormonal birth control for men. Why do women have to alter their natural hormonal makeup and increase the toxins in their bodies just to prevent pregnancy? I have an IUD and love it and am happy to be baby free (for now) and also in touch with my body's natural rhythms.
